At GENNET City Fertility we have been helping lesbian women on their journey into parenthood for many years. We have a dedicated and specialist team who will guide you and support you with every aspect of your fertility care. There are a number of treatment options for Lesbian women and our experienced team will discuss these options with you.
Shared Motherhood or Reciprocal IVF gives you both the chance to be clinically involved in the treatment journey.
If you both want to be physically and clinically involved in the journey from start to finish, then this route to parenthood may be right for you. Shared Motherhood will give you both a biological or gestational link to your children.
One partner will use her eggs to create embryos with the sperm of a known or unknown donor and the other female partner will undergo the embryo transfer and carry the pregnancy.
With donor insemination or ‘DI’ we will track your cycle and at your most fertile time, the donor sperm will be placed through the cervix and into the uterus. The sperm will be from either a known or unknown donor of your choice.
If you feel that you want your fertility treatment journey to be as natural as possible then DI may be the option for you. DI is less invasive than other treatment options and is often the first step into parenthood or fertility treatment for Lesbian couples.
IVF or In vitro Fertilisation with donor sperm is another option for lesbian couples. One partner will undergo stimulation and egg collection and her eggs will be fertilised with the sperm from either a known or unknown donor, she will then undergo an embryo transfer.
This option may be for you if only one of you wants to be clinically/biologically involved in the treatment process. This is sometimes the next step for Lesbian couples who have previously been through an insemination cycle with unsuccessful outcome.
When using donor sperm in treatment, there are a number of forms that we may need for you to complete to ensure that you will both be the legal parents of any children born as a result of your treatment. Our team has been creating families for many years and we will guide you through any consent forms and answer any questions that you may have about legal parenthood and parental responsibility.
You might find this information from Stonewall helpful.
Many Lesbian couples are choosing co-parenting as a route to parenthood. Co-parenting can take place with both donor insemination and IVF treatments and gives you the opportunity to put an agreement in place with a male friend so that you can all be involved in the upbringing of the child.
Although parental responsibility and legal parenthood may be different depending on your marital status, co-parenting arrangements can be a great way of creating your family. Co-parenting agreements need to be in place before treatment starts and we recommend that you liaise with a specialist family lawyer when writing your agreements.
