Both partners to attend the clinic for the Semen Assessment – a measure of a man’s sperm count, motility and morphology
At GENNET City Fertility we are proud to offer a surrogacy programme that is dedicated to supporting same-sex men on their journey into parenthood. We understand that surrogacy can appear complex and be a lengthy process and our experienced team are on hand to support you every step of the way for our gay couples.
One, or both of you, will provide your sperm to create embryos with an egg donor. Those embryos will then be transferred to your chosen surrogate, who will carry the pregnancy for you.
How does it work?
Is shared motherhood for us?
For many gay couples, they want the option of having a sibling later down the line and for the siblings to be created from the same egg donor. Host surrogacy can support this option as you have the chance to create and store excess embryos for any future surrogacy cycles. By fertilising the donor eggs with sperm from each of you, you can then choose which partner's embryo to transfer first and store the others for sibling use and further treatment. With host surrogacy, there is also no biological link from your surrogate to your child.
Undergoing host surrogacy through our clinic will give you the information and reassurances that you may need on your journey into parenthood. Our team feels that it is extremely important that the Intended Parents (IP’s) and surrogates are involved in the treatment process from start to end and we will ensure that, wherever possible, you will be seen together.
We can also point you in the direction of other organisations that may help with your surrogacy plans.
Will we both be the legal parents of our child?
If your surrogate is single, then she can nominate the non-biological father to be the second legal parent as she will be the legal parent at birth. From 6 weeks old, you can apply for a Parental Order to become the legal parents of your child.
If your surrogate is married or in a civil partnership then her partner will be the second legal parent at birth and you both can apply for a parental order to legal parents when your child is 6 weeks old.
Our team will guide you through this process and point you in the right direction for further advice and support with regards to your legal parenthood rights. You might find this article helpful.
