How Much Does IVF Cost in the UK?

How Much Does IVF Cost in the UK?

When planning a cycle of IVF, it’s only natural to worry about how it will affect your budget. But how much does IVF actually cost in the UK? Knowing this may give you more peace of mind and the chance to settle your finances before you prepare for any medical treatment and a potential new arrival afterwards.

Below, we discuss the average price of IVF fertility treatment in the UK, what private fertility clinics offer that may not be offered on the NHS, and what we will be happy to provide for you if you choose to come to us for specialist treatment.

On Average, How Much Does IVF Cost in the UK?

If you are looking for treatment from a private UK clinic, the average cost for IVF treatment will vary, depending on which treatment centre you choose. In most cases the price will range between £1,500 and £5,000 per cycle (treatment fee, excluding drugs and optional extras). This price may then increase, depending on how many cycles you carry out through that particular clinic.

Finding the best price for your budget can often be difficult, so we would always recommend finding the fertility clinic which offers the most cost-effective service, while taking care of all your needs. In some cases, this may mean travelling to a different part of the UK. As such, expenses for food, travel and overnight stays will also have to be planned into your budget.

Receiving IVF Treatment on the NHS

If you live in England, you may be eligible to receive fertility treatments such as IVF on the NHS. Unfortunately, this isn’t available if you live in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, as each country makes its own decisions on funding these procedures.

Those looking for IVF treatment in England will find that they need to be declared eligible to receive it. Decisions about who is eligible and who isn’t are made by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), and these groups also decide how many IVF cycles a person can have.

Because of this, in some parts of England you may be eligible for three cycles of free IVF treatment, while in other parts you may only be able to receive one. According to research carried out in 2017 by Fertility Fairness, the number of CCGs offering the recommended three cycles of IVF treatment to eligible women under 40 had halved from 24% to 12% when compared to the same study carried out in 2013.

In other locations entirely, CCGs may even decide that you are not eligible at all, which would then mean seeking assistance from a private clinic and having to pay for IVF treatment. This is something that is very often referred to as the IVF postcode lottery.

How Much Will IVF Cost at GENNET City Fertility?

We offer two IVF packages, the IVF package STANDARD and the IVF package with Embryo Freezing. Both of these are priced at £3,500. If two cycle attempts are unsuccessful (negative outcome confirmed by a blood test after all embryos created from both cycles have been transferred including all cryopreserved embryos), we will also offer you a third cycle of IVF package STANDARD, completely free of charge.

If you are unsure whether we would be the right clinic for you to receive IVF treatment, do not worry as our 30-min free mini consultation will always be free. This gives us a chance to discuss the treatment that will be best for you and work out the price based on what you need from us.

Medication and blood tests will not be included in either of our IVF packages, unless specifically stated in the breakdown of the treatment costs, something we refer to as the Costed Treatment Plan (CTP). For all cycles which involve mixing eggs and sperm, there will be a HFEA fee, payable to the sum of £80. When you come to visit us for the first time, we’ll also provide you with the details you need regarding payments, cancellation fees, refunds, storage obligations, and other services.

We accept a number of payment methods, including debit and credit cards (American Express up to a limit of £750 per invoice), and bank transfers.
